Bible Fellowship

Here at First Baptist Church, we are guided by the Bible in our daily lives and in our church. We look to the Bible to teach us how to love one another, to serve our community and to be transformed into the men and women of faith that God has created us to be. In the Bible we find our true purpose and so we emphasize the need to read it and study its history, context, and principles both personally and as a community of believers. We know that the call of Jesus is a call to a higher life and a great purpose, so we work together to find that purpose through the reading and discussion of the Bible together.

Bible Fellowship Opportunities at FBCH:

Tuesdays, 7:00pm, “Gold Room” Fellowship Room, First Baptist Church – On Tuesday evenings we gather together to read and discuss various Bible books, passages, and special topics. The emphasis of our gathering is to share not just the history, context, and words of the time in which these books were written, but also to share how these words speak into our own lives and contexts today!

Sundays, 11:15am, Church Library, First Baptist Church – On Sunday Mornings, after our Worship Gathering we meet to dive deep into the teaching of the Bible! The class focuses on themes that emerge from the Bible passages being discussed and how they work to build up the fundamentals of our faith!

Service

James, the brother of Jesus, once wrote to the church, “But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.” (James 2:18) This challenge was made to those who believed it was enough simply to claim that they believed in Jesus but felt that it was not necessary to serve others, and also a challenge to those who believed that service was the end unto itself without the need to share the love of Jesus. James teaches us that the heart of God is in sharing our lives in service to others in order to demonstrate to them that they are not alone in this world and that God truly does care about them.

Here at First Baptist we are committed to not just talking about Jesus and sharing what He did, but also to following Him into our community and sharing our hearts through the service of others. We encourage anyone and everyone who wishes to make an impact – not just for a moment, but also for a lifetime – on people in our community and in our own church.

We often forget that the church is not a sanctuary for the righteous, but a hospital for the broken. We cannot ignore the real pain that surrounds us each day, including among those we call brothers and sisters in our church family.

  • We engage in service to our elderly members by assisting them in their daily lives and activities, visiting with them to keep them company, and helping to transport them as they need to various activities in their lives (doctors appointments, social gatherings, etc.).
  • We engage in service to those in need through direct action and monetary support.
  • We offer activities for children to give parents time to do what they need to in their own lives.
  • We have opened our doors to the Mercer County WIC program to serve our community by providing needed benefits to Women and Mothers in our community.
  • We host “Foundations of Hope”, a Narcotics Anonymous group for men that is working to combat the opioid and drug crisis in our community.
  • We work with City of Angels, a non-profit substance abuse organization that does advocacy, training, and support for those with addictions and the families and friends of those touched by it.
  • We work with iCARE, a Hightstown Community Action Group which focuses on mental health issues, especially among teens and young children.
  • We have partnered with a church plant, Iglesia Christiana New Hights (New Hights Christian Church) to do ministry among our Latino/a brothers and sisters who make up a large part of our community.

We are also always looking for new ways to touch our community with the love of God through His willing followers who just want to make a difference in this world!
